My name is Zhenga and I’m not your average twenty-something chick. Sure, on the outside I might seem pretty normal -I live alone in a cute apartment, work at a trendy health food store, and spend way too much on cute clothes. But on the inside? I’m anything but ordinary.

See, I have this gift. Or curse, depending on how you look at it. I can see the future. Not in some cool superhero way, but in messy, confusing snippets that hit me out of nowhere. One minute I’m going about my day, and the next I’m seizing on the floor, caught in the grip of a vision no one else can see. When it finally lets me go, I’m left panting and trembling, my body aching from the violence of it.

The visions started when I was just a kid. Doctors had no clue why some strange little girl kept having seizures, until one day a vision saved my neighbor’s life. I realized these “seizures” were actually glimpses into events yet to come.

Problem is, I never know when I’ll be struck by one, or how bad it’ll be. I was never allowed to drive-it’s too dangerous when a vision could grab hold of me at any second. My condition means walking or taking public traspo wherever I need to go. Though all that walking has given me awesome legs, if I do say so myself.

Most days I try not to think about the gift I never asked for. I just want to live a normal life, hang with friends, maybe even date like regular people do. But time and again, the gift proves useful-whether saving someone from danger or helping out folks at my store. Even when it’s a pain, literally and figuratively, I guess it’s meant to be used to help others. I just wish, for once, it would stop to consider what I want before tearing through me without warning. But we don’t always get a choice in life, do we? We just have to work with the hand we’re dealt.
